I've got the entire month of September off and I'm planning a trip to Mainland Mexico for 4-5 wks of camping and surfing etc. Wondering if there is anyone out there who would be interested in traveling together- sharing a car rental etc. I'm thinking of flying into Puerto Vallarta and renting a vehicle and then heading south (depending on swell etc.) I'm also open to driving down the coast from California (I'm in the Bay Area). But I'm not feeling very confident about driving my volvo wagon into Mexico.

question i wonder if some of you would care to respond to: i'm looking for a new board, have narrowed it down to a few fish designs. I'm wondering if any of you have or have surfed the Rusty Piranha, Lost Round Nose Fish, or have another fave fish that you love? I'm in SoCal now so I'm only in need of a fish that does well in 5ft & under most of the time. Don't think an old-school style is for me cuz i'm pretty small and if it's too wide, it's hard to paddle. the piranha and lost are pretty different, wondering what others who ride them have to say about them.
Anyone care to comment on these or a fish they love or think sucks?

thanks, any info is helpful!

Ambassadors Scott Taylor and Amanda Hain from The Dolphin Embassy in Bryon Bay, Australia will be presenting a multi-media event with topics sure to interest California residents-- scientific, therapeutic, political, and spiritual-- describing work going on around the world about our extraordinary and vital link to the People of the Sea: @ Wright's Ranch, 24680 Piuma Rd, Malibu, from 7:00 til 10:00pm, and San Jose, June 6th, 1540 Hicks Ave (Divine Science Community Center--6:30-9:30) Tickets $20 at the door, and $35 for couples.

The Dolphin Embassy's highly acclaimed multi-media presentation has video clips, animations, unique images, music, dolphin sounds, and live narration.

YOU WILL SEE AND HEAR THE BEAUTY OF THE DOLPHIN AND WHALE WORLD AS NEVER BEFORE

The Dolphin Embassy was started by an Australian and an American, Amanda and Scott, who have spent over 25 years studying and working with dolphins.

Scott is the author of "Souls in the Sea: Dolphins, Whales, and Human Destiny", published by Frog Ltd, Berkeley 2003. He is also the founding Director of the Cetacean Studies Institute, a research and education organisation based in Byron Bay.

Amanda, a trained counsellor, is the Director of the Dolphin EDventures Wellness Program in Coff's Harbour, Australia. The Wellness program is designed for adults to be able to have up-close and intimate contact with dolphins in a safe environment. The program offers "non-clinical, self-directed therapy", and has been helping people for over three years.

The Dolphin Embassy has been invited to bring the voice of the dolphins to the United Nations. "This is an extraordinary moment in history, when the other highly intelligent, socially sophisticated, language-using mammals with whom we share this world are able to take their rightful place among the community of nations--as the Cetacean Nation", says Scott Taylor.

Please pass this on to your lists.

After 30 minutes in the water, a decent sized (7 foot or so) wave took John in and broke his board in half. The shop owners hemed and hawed about that one being a really nice board and asked John to pay $200 and made it sound like they were doing him a big favor. The contract said damage caused by improper use would have to be paid for, but we were----surfing. No improper use today. He was gracious about paying, but I think they reamed him. What do you think?

No point bringing my stuff. My suit is designed for iceberg type water so I would boil in it. I am flying into Oakland, was thinking of heading to Pacifica or somewhere around there to surf. Any ideas? Suggestions?

(totally clothed, maybe in-action surf shots, etc!)

We will be doing a shoot in the next 1-2 months. The idea of the shots will be real people doing what they do, and wearing our products. This is essentially showing the attainment of what our brand promises. (Think of the Title 9 Catalog).

YOU:
...DO NOT need to be a pro surfer, slasher, or grabbing airs. Ability to stand on a board and look convincing is fine.
...DO need to be an aware person and very friendly, people WILL ask you about the T's, it happens to my wife EVERY time she wears one, and all of the people that have them.
...will have to believe the concept of our brand, which will be revealed in a conversation face to face.

Hey gang,
Yesterday’s contest was insane! Great Job from Jeff Clark, Katherine
Clark and the rest of the Mavericks Contest Crew. Mavericks 2005
Champion Anthony Tashnick put in a solid performance all day long and
finished it off in the finals catching the best big waves. The event
was held in solid fifteen to eighteen foot surf with the occasional
twenty foot set. At one point Shane Desmond from Santa Cruz dropped
into what some are calling a twenty five footer with a fifty foot face.
That wave would have made the tow crews envious. Greg Long and Zach
Wormhoudt also bagged a couple of giant ones.

Matt Ambrose was awarded the Jay Moriarity Award for his continued
dedication and hard charging spirit. Matt was one of the notorious
Pedro Point crew who was introduced to the spot by Jeff Clark early on
and hasn't stopped charging ever since. The Reactor Watch Award was
presented to Ryan Augustine. One of Mavericks newest chargers who is
following in the footsteps of Flea, Peter Mel and the rest of the Santa
Cruz Hellmen. Missing from this years event was three time Champion
Darryl Flea Virostko. Flea injured his knee at the Eddie Aikau Big Wave
Event and couldn't surf in the contest. Be he was out on a boat
cheering on Anthony Tashnick and the rest of the Santa Cruz Westside
contingent.

The water angle is now up. You can check the photos out at -
http://www.mavsurfer.com/frank_quirarte/contest_05/
We will have the cliff angle and some great video clips up shortly.

NBC will be broadcasting the event soon. We’ll keep you posted.

As you may have already noticed Mavsurfer is going through a major
face-lift. We have been around for nearly ten years and we needed to
desperately clean out the closet. We are going to slowly rebuild the
site throughout the summer reloading video clips in the newer formats
and re-organizing all the great photo galleries we’ve taken over the
years.

So keep checking back for new updates.

The Cam was down for a few days before the event. The cam sits high
above Mavericks and gets pounded by weather day in and day out. We had
to swap it out for a new one. With the help of Sean Collins and Gabriel
Sanchez of Surfline we managed to get it running before the contest.

We still would like to reach our goal of five thousand dollars. We need
your support. We have partnered up with Google and that has helped.
Keep clicking on those ads. We’ve never asked for donations for all the
free services we’ve provide on MavSurfer for the past 9 years or so.
But that’s all about to change. We would like to purchase some of the
new digital equipment to keep fueling the site and we need your help.
Our goal is to raise at least five thousand dollars.

This will allow us to purchase the Canon 1D Mark II. This is Canon’s
top of the line sports digital camera. And of course, no good deed goes
un-rewarded. With every donation over $100 you will receive the
Mavericks DVD, Return of the Drag-In and a Mavericks T-Shirt. For Every
donation over $500 you will receive a limited edition personalized
Mavericks iPhoto Book, Return of the Drag – In and a T-Shirt. (Very
Cool).

For a donation of the full Five Thousand you will receive the only
remaining original Men Who Ride Mountains Contest Poster signed by the
original line-up including Jay Moriarity, Just added, The 2005
Mavericks Surf Contest iPhoto Book, Return of the Drag-In and a
T-Shirt. Dig deep; dig often . . . Thanks for the help.

To donate by check or credit card contact - staff@mavsurfer

Aloha . . . Frankie Q

So I've done some research and I know that there are some possible spaces in the Hunters Point area. The more people involved the cheaper.
I've heard Santa Cruz has better waves than Pacifica. I am not looking for anything huge mind you, since I am still a beginner, and I know I should check the surf report, but on average, do most of you guys prefer SC over Pacifica?

A fun story about several less than prominent longboarder lifestyles. Essentially yhe board is shaped and then shipped to surfers in Aus, Japan, South Africa, and the US. let me know what you think. its one of the best soundtracks i have heard on a surf flick ever.

But on November 3rd, the Environmental Protection Agency proposed a new policy that would allow sewage to be discharged during rain storms without full treatment. The proposal would increase the amount of bacteria, viruses and parasites discharged into recreational waters and drinking water supplies, where they would make more people sick.
